Needs vs Wants
Learn the difference and choose smart.
Every time you spend money, you're making a choice. One of the most important skills in life is knowing the difference between a need and a want.
A NEED is something you must have to live and be healthy. Food, clean water, a safe place to sleep, warm clothes for winter, going to school — these are needs. Without them, life gets really hard.
A WANT is something that's nice to have but you can live without. A new video game, a candy bar, a fancy backpack with extra zippers, the latest sneakers — these are wants. They're fun, but they're not necessary.
Here's the tricky part: sometimes wants feel like needs! Your brain says, 'I NEED that toy!' But if you wait a day or two, that feeling usually goes away. Try the 24-hour rule: if you still want it tomorrow, it might be worth saving for.
Smart spenders take care of needs first, then save up for the wants that really matter to them. That way, you never run out of money for the important stuff — and the fun stuff feels even better when you finally get it.
